Volunteer With Us
Would you like to volunteer with the Financial Stability Alliance? Volunteers are
critical to the success of Bank On Bloomington, the Free Community Tax Service,
and the FSA Steering Committee. More information on how you can help appears
below.
An important component of Bank On Bloomington is the free and interactive
financial education workshop "Get on the Path to Financial Success!" This class
offered twice a month at the Monroe County Public Library is facilitated by
community members. After completing training, volunteers will lead Get on the
Path to Financial Stability workshops where participants learn how to manage a
checking account, develop and maintain a budget, and identify and work towards
their financial goals. For more information, please contact the Community
Initiatives Director at United Way of Monroe County at 334-8370 or
ash@monroeunitedway.org.
"FCTS is an extraordinary
opportunity to serve the local
community... I was able to apply
the knowledge I learned from
FCTS in a professional setting
only a few months after I
completed the program."
-Kenny (FCTS 2012 Volunteer)
The FCTS is convened by United Way and brings together local government,
nonprofits, and other community organizations to help residents file their taxes
for free. In doing so, residents are able to save in tax preparation fees, and claim
valuable credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). In 2012, participating
tax sites included Ellettsville Branch Library, Indiana University Maurer School
of Law, Ivy Tech Community College-Bloomington, Monroe County Public
Library, Owen County Public Library, South Central Community Action Program,
Twin Lakes Recreation Center, WorkOne Bloomington, and a mobile site that
visited four locations at Broadview Learning Center, St. Paul Catholic Church,
LifeDesigns, and Stone Belt. To serve this growing need in our community, we are
recruiting volunteer tax preparers and site coordinators. Training takes place in
early January. To learn more or to sign up for training, please contact the
Community Initiatives Director at United Way of Monroe County at 334-8370 or
ash@monroeunitedway.org.
Do you have a passion for the financial stability of our community? Consider
serving on the FSA steering committee. Meetings are held quarterly at United
Way. Serving on the steering committee is a wonderful opportunity to work with
representatives from service organizations and to provide input on planning,
improving, and promoting initiatives and events. To volunteer or to learn more,
please contact the Community Initiatives Director at United Way of Monroe
County, 334-8370 or FSA@monroeunitedway.org.
